ANU BOOM GATE OPENING HOURS
Operating hours of the ANU Boom gate on the Summit Road to Mt Stromlo and the start of the Downhill MTB track are:
Weekdays - 6.30am to 6.00pm
Weekends - 7.00am to 6.00pm
Vehicle access is prohibited outside these hours.
The world-class Mountain Bike Track designer, Glen Jacobs, designed the Stromlo Forest Park Downhill course.
The course length is 2.2 kilometres with a start elevation of 765 metres. The spectacular course includes rock gardens, drop offs, jumps and sweeping berms.
Whilst this course has been designed to allow for beginner downhill mountain bike riders, the course will also challenge the best riders in the world’s best. This course should only be ridden by competent mountain bike riders.
The course consists of A, B, C lines. A-lines are the most difficult lines and include large steep shoots, large gap jumps and drop offs. The C-lines are all able to be rolled, however these are still challenging and should only be ridden by competent riders.
Confident MTB riders should only use the use of the DH and all users must remain on the designated tracks and paths provided. Spectators wishing to view the DH may do so however; it is recommended that you remain within the designated viewing points.
Recommended Equipment
Appropriate gloves, elbow, knee and shin pads, full faced helmet (Australian Standard Certified), mountain bike with front suspension, working front and rear brakes, and adequate tread on tires and chest and spine protection.
Conditions of use
- Downhill trail is one-way only; don’t ride up hill.
- Downhill mountain biking can be a hazardous sport; it is highly recommended that all users wear a full faced helmet (Australian Standard Certified).
- Use appropriate riding equipment including: gloves, enclosed footwear, goggles, kneepads, shin guards, elbow pads and covered clothing and well maintained bike equipment.
- Avoid riding in wet muddy conditions.
- Maintain an appropriate distance between riders of approximately 50 metres.
- Slower riders keep to the left.
- Don’t take shortcuts; ride only on the trail provided.
- Ride within your ability – use the provided alternative ABC riding lines to navigate difficult sections.
- Obstacles are present on the trail, please observe and navigate appropriately.
- No stopping on the trail; complete a full run.
- No walking up the trail; no riding of the trail in sections.
- Trail use may be restricted for safety reasons at various times or for special events.
- Pedestrians must stay off the trail at all times and only cross with extreme care.
- Organisers of a planned event may change user procedures at their discretion and must advise all users of these changes prior to their participation.
